1. ROD PUPPET
KITS AVAILABLE
For: all grades
Time needed: 2hrs, if using kits 1hr.
Rod puppets are worked from below. The puppeteer holds
the main supporting rod to the head in one hand while

BBQ skewers, fabric remnants, felt, beads, buttons,
wool yarn, scraps of trim etc all help to make a very
popular workshop.

AVAILABLE
For: grades 3 - 6
Time needed: 2hrs, if using kits 1hr
a. A rod puppet similar
to the one described in workshop no.1 with a head formed
from stocking instead of a poly ball and using a variety
of other materials as described above also. One of the
most popular workshops available in kits.

4. GLOVE PUPPET ANIMALS ONLY
AVAILABLE IN KITS
For: grades 2 - 6
Time: needed 1.5hrs
Some careful cutting out will be required to produce
a fantastic animal glove puppet. All grades may choose
a rabbit, mouse, dog or cat. A koala is also available
for more capable students only as it is a little trickier.
It is possible to run this workshop for prep - 1 students
but as they find the cutting out fairly difficult adult
help is essential at the ratio of 1 to 4 at least.

5. MINIMATES ONLY AVAILABLE
IN KITS
For: grades 1 - 6
Time needed: 1 - 1.5 hrs.
Since its introduction this has proven to be a most
popular workshop. Great results are achieved from simple
components making a "muppet" style puppet
with a hinged "talking" mouth. The basic kit
is available pre-cut or partially cut for students whose
fine motor skills are developing. Older students will
do their own cutting out and have the option of adding
arms.

6.ANIMATES ONLY AVAILABLE
IN KITS
For: grades 3 - 6
Time needed: 1.5 hrs
Minimuppets have been so successful that this popular
workshop has been developed further. Here the basic
"muppet" concept becomes an animal. Choose
from a cat, dog, mouse, rabbit or koala. It involves
a lot more cutting out than the minimuppet and so is
limited to grades 3-6.

For: grades 2 - 6

The popular junk marionette adapted as a rod puppet,

9. BODY PUPPETS
For: grades 5 & 6
Time needed: full day
A life size puppet which is "worn" by the
puppeteer. A head is made from a robust paper plate
on a rod and a body from outgrown clothes and a wire
coat hanger. One hand controls the head while the puppeteer
stands behind. All other movements are achieved by attaching
the puppet to the puppeteers other hand and feet so
that the puppet moves with its operator. A simple form
of this puppet can be made in 2 hrs but a full day workshop
allows students to create something quite unique which
could be used in performance. Lots of movement, dance
and action are possible with this puppet.

For: grades 4-6+
Time needed: four x 2.5 hr sessions
Not the painstaking and laborious pasting of many strips
